As we reflect on an exhilarating first term of the 2024-2025 academic year, The British School of Brussels has once again proven its athletic prowess across multiple Tier 1 sports. Our student-athletes have shown exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship, to bring home an impressive array of accolades during Term 1.
While the majority of the gymnastics season takes place in Term 2, our talented gymnasts travelled to Geneva for a prestigious competition in December. The team’s performance was more than worthy of praise, finishing the competition with an astounding haul of 21 medals.
In the Over 12s category, Amalia produced incredible performances to secure gold medals in bars, beam, and the all-around event. Helena demonstrated remarkable consistency, earning silver in vault, bars, and the all-around, along with a bronze in beam. Caity and Mia shone on the floor, claiming gold and silver respectively.
The Under 12s were not to be outdone, with Brianna and Ada winning gold and silver in the vault. The second day saw Emilie, Adèle, and KiKa sweep the podium in the Over 12s vault, while Emilia showed her versatility with a gold in the all-around and medals in bars, beam, and floor.
The BSB Dolphins have been on a remarkable journey this term, participating in several high-profile meets. At the CVB BSB Swim Meet in October last year, our senior swimmers collected an impressive 14 medals, including 5 golds. Shota’s victory in the challenging 100m Butterfly was a particular highlight.
November brought further success with the BSB Junior & Senior Swim Meet, where our team accumulated a staggering 690 points, far outpacing the competition. Outstanding performances came from age group winners Hannah, Harry, Yaiza, Barney, and Charlie.
The team’s prowess extended beyond our borders at the International School Swimming Cup in Cobham, UK. Despite fierce competition, our swimmers secured multiple medals, including gold in the 100m Breaststroke and several silvers and bronzes in individual and relay events.
The term concluded with a fantastic display at the long course meet in Luxembourg on in early December, where the Dolphins amassed the highest team score of 1825.5 points. Esther and Thomas set personal bests in their respective 50m Butterfly victories, while our 9U girls team swept every individual event.
Our football teams were unstoppable in Term 1, with victories across multiple age groups and tournaments. The U14 boys secured the title at the BSN tournament in the Netherlands, with Zaim scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory against the hosts.
The Mediterranean Football Cup in Verona saw both our U16 boys’ teams excel, with the B team finishing as runners-up and the A team securing BSB’s first-ever U16 Mediterranean Cup title in a thrilling penalty shootout.
The ISAA tournaments provided our footballers with further challenges which they overcame with skill and determination. The Varsity Girls made history by winning their first-ever Division 1 championship, with Nuri and Izzy combining for the winning goal in the final. Not to be outdone, the Varsity Boys successfully defended their title, securing their third consecutive ISAA Division 1 championship.
In the ISSC tournaments, our U14 boys’ A team emerged victorious in Cobham, while the U18 boys ensured an all-BSB final on home turf, with the ‘B’ Team securing the trophy in a nail-biting penalty shootout.
The bar has been set incredibly high as we look ahead to the rest of the academic year. However, with the talent, dedication, and team spirit displayed by our athletes, there’s no doubt that BSB will continue to shine in the sporting arena.
