The British School of Brussels (BSB) is delighted to announce the outstanding exam results achieved by the Class of 2024, a testament to the school’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence and the holistic development of its students. This diverse and globally minded cohort excelled across all Post-16 pathways, including the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, A Levels, and BTEC qualifications, reinforcing BSB’s reputation as a leading international school.
In the A-Level results, BSB’s students continued to demonstrate the school’s commitment to fostering both academic and creative talents. A-Level students, who can specialise in a select range of subjects, once again delivered exceptional results across a wide variety of disciplines. This year’s A-Level pass rate stood at an impressive 96%, with 61% of all grades awarded at A*-B. Remarkably, 34% of the students achieved A*-A grades, significantly surpassing the UK national average of 27.6%. At the top end of the scale, the highest-achieving students secured three A* grades and one A, a remarkable feat that further underscores BSB’s culture of high expectations and achievement.
Equally impressive were the accomplishments of students enrolled in BSB’s BTEC courses. In the Level 3 BTEC qualifications, students achieved a flawless 100% pass rate, with 60% of the grades awarded at Distinction* or Distinction level, and 82% of all grades at Merit level or above. Level 2 BTEC students mirrored this success, also achieving a 100% pass rate, with 72% of grades at Distinction* or Distinction level and 89% at Merit level or higher. These results highlight the strength of BSB’s vocational programmes, which equip students with practical skills and knowledge for the modern workplace.
BSB’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma students also delivered exceptional results, further solidifying the school’s standing as a top-tier IB institution. The IB pass rate for 2024 reached 97%, far exceeding the global pass rate of 80%. The average IB score among BSB students was an impressive 35 points, significantly higher than the world average of 30.32. Moreover, BSB students consistently outperformed their peers globally by at least one grade per subject. The highest-achieving students in this year’s cohort attained a near-perfect score of 44 points out of 45, demonstrating both their academic rigour and the exceptional quality of instruction at BSB.
These stellar achievements reflect not only the hard work, resilience, and ambition of BSB’s students but also the collaborative efforts of the school’s educators, support staff, and parents. The Class of 2024’s placements at prestigious universities and business schools around the world, including institutions in North America, Europe, and Asia, are a testament to their remarkable accomplishments and BSB’s global reach.
James Johnson, Vice Principal and Head of Secondary at BSB, praised the graduates, stating, “The achievements of the Class of 2024 are nothing short of extraordinary. These results reflect their determination, the high-quality teaching they have received, and the supportive environment fostered at BSB. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and confident that they will continue to succeed in the next stages of their academic and professional journeys.”
BSB’s academic success extends beyond its Post-16 students, as the school also celebrates another year of impressive GCSE results. The 2024 GCSE cohort achieved a pass rate of 94%, with 57% of all grades awarded at Grade 7 or above. These results significantly outpace the UK national average, where only 67.4% of students receive Grades 4-9. Once again, BSB’s supportive learning environment has enabled students to excel academically, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of further education.
At the heart of BSB’s success is its inclusive ethos, which welcomes students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, including those new to the British education system. The school’s dedicated team of highly qualified educators and support staff work together to deliver expert academic instruction, exceptional pastoral care, and personalised support, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
“We foster a culture of aspiration at BSB, where every student is encouraged to aim high and achieve their best,” said Principal Melanie Warnes. “The success of our IB, A-Level, and BTEC graduates reflects their exceptional talent and commitment. We are immensely proud of their achievements and extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff and supportive parents who have played a crucial role in their success.”
The Class of 2024 at the British School of Brussels exemplifies excellence across multiple academic pathways. Their individual dedication, paired with the collective efforts of BSB’s community, ensures that they are well-equipped to take on leadership roles and make meaningful contributions on the global stage. As they embark on the next chapter of their lives, the school looks forward to celebrating their future successes and the impact they will undoubtedly make in the world.
